Unit Set-Up
Place the unit on a flat surface or bracket tray. You will want to keep the unit close by for quick adjustments of the water and intensity settings.
Connect the circular shaped foot pedal to the back receptacle located below the main cord receptacle. Place foot pedal on floor. Note: the unit will function only when foot pedal is depressed.
A.Attach/plug the water cord quick-connect into a standard female ¼ inch water outlet.
B.Plug the power cord supplied with your new system into the three-prong receptacle outlet located in
back of the unit. Plug the male plug portion of the power cord into an electrical outlet.
C.Attach either the endodontic or periodontal autoclavable handpiece to cord and connector as follows...
The handpiece is keyed for proper alignment, so there is no need to force the connection. Grasp the cord connector at the indented area with one hand and handpiece with the other. Make sure the connector is free from dirt or water. If necessary, blow off connector with air syringe.
Align the tab on the gray cord connector from unit with slot located in bottom opening of the handpiece. This is usually done by slowly turning the handpiece on the connector until it finds the slot. Press the handpiece and cord connector together with firm, but not forceful, pressure.
D.Select the appropriate endodontic or periodontal instrument and screw it into the handpiece. The endo handpiece will only accept a male thread, the perio handpiece will only accept a female thread. Suggest you start threading with your fingers until the tip until is finger tight. Then use the tip wrench supplied with your tip set to tighten the tip further. Tighten tip until snug, but do not over tighten. A loose tip will effect tip performance.

Starting The Unit
Once all of the connections are made depress the power button located on the left side of the unit?s faceplate. One green bar located inside the INTENSITY window will light. Your unit is now ready to operate. If you need water to flow through the handpiece with either the perio or KiS surgery tips, depress the WATER button located on the right side of the faceplate. A blue light will appear indicating your MTS unit is ready to supply the handpiece and tips with water. The control knob in the back of the unit adjusts the water intensity.
Note: there are 10 green light bars located inside of the INTENSITY window. Each time you depress the plus button another green light bar appears signifying increased tip power and intensity. Depress the minus button and the green bars disappear, signifying decreased tip power and intensity.
To activate the unit, depress the foot pedal. You will not hear any noise or feel any vibration until the attached tip touches a solid surface.
Your MTS unit will automatically shut off after 30 minutes of non-use.
Additional notes:
CPR® endodontic instruments designed for your Spartan unit, (described in the next section), do not have a water portal therefore operate dry. The primary reason for this is better visibility. Because water is needed for surgical procedures, your KiSTM surgical tips, also designed for your Spartan unit, cut wet and have a water portal located near the front of the tip. Your Spartan perio tips also have a water portal located just below the tip.

Sterilization of Autoclavable Handpiece
Your Spartan MTS handpiece can only be sterilized by steam, or by using a chemical vapor type autoclave. Do not place in dry heat, or rapid hot air type sterilizer because the high temperatures attained may damage the handpiece.
To disconnect the handpiece from the cord grasp the metal connector at the indented or concave area with one hand, while simultaneously pulling the handpiece off with the other hand. Pull straight out. Note: Do not pull connector from handpiece by pulling on cord. Disconnect the contaminated handpiece wearing scrub or utility gloves. For best results always remove tip and sterilize separately.
Hand scrub the handpiece using a general purpose cleaner, and a clean cloth, gauze sponge, or soft bristled brush. Do not immerse handpiece in an ultrasonic bath.
Place handpiece in a sterilization bag or wrap and follow the manufacturers recommended time and temperature to ensure sterility. After the sterilization procedure is complete the handpiece can be reconnected to the cord after THE HANDPIECE REACHES ROOM TEMPERATURE!! Room temperature should be attained in approximately 30 minutes.
